This project aims to provide all necessary upgrades to bring the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center Campus into compliance with all HCAI seismic requirements. The project will deliver plan submittals in accordance with the 2026 deadline for construction documents.

Project Scope The project involves all work necessary for the upgrade of the East and West Towers at SCVMC to make them compliant for acute care beyond the 2030 HCAI deadline. Work includes:

  • Structural upgrades to the East Tower to comply with SPC 4D standards for performance of the building in a seismic event

  • Seismic bracing of existing above ceiling utilities in the East Tower in critical care spaces

  • Seismic anchorage of all equipment in the East Tower in critical care spaces

  • Seismic bracing of sprinkler piping in the East and West Towers

  • ADA upgrades to the path of travel in the areas of work

  • Complete replacement of the main electrical system of the East Tower, including the segregation of emergency systems into critical, life-safety, and equipment branches 

  • Addition of new chiller in the Ocean View Tower and piping connections back the East Tower

  • Addition of four underground potable water tanks in front of the West Tower

  • Addition of two underground wastewater tanks along Medical Center Court

  • New pump utility enclosure

  • New surface upgrades above the new water storage tanks

  • Repair and phasing design for all seismic upgrade work
